Kindergarten

“Saplings”

Our Early Education program seeks to cultivate students’ natural curiosity and wonder about the world around them. Students in our early education program are prepared with attentive listening, hands on projects, and outdoor nature study. They develop the building blocks of reading and writing through phonemic awareness and practicing the early stages of handwriting. During a typical school day students will practice recitation including scripture memory, hymns, folk songs and memory chants.

1st-4th Grade

“Little Oaks & Cedar”

Our 1s through 4th students experience an academically rich classical education that emphasizes Charlotte Mason’s belief of short efficient lessons and time to play outdoors and experience the beauty of God’s creation. We use John Senior’s 1,000 good books list as the basis of our literature study.

Philosophical Influences

Classical Education

We aspire to create lifelong learners who seek to love and know what is true, good and beautiful. Classical education is the methodology of the Liberal Arts tradition. At Cypress Classical we seek to cultivate students who embody virtue and to rightly order their affections.  This is done by “laying a feast” of beautiful ideas, including  academically rich lessons, classical literature, and the study of the arts.

Charlotte Mason

Charlotte Mason was a 19th century education philosopher who firmly believed that education is “an atmosphere, a discipline, and a life”. Charlotte dedicated her life to the idea that children are born persons meaning they should be given a beautiful education that reflects the beauty of their creator. At Cypress, we implement key distinctives of a Charlotte Mason education including:

  • Short lessons

  • Nature Study

  • Composer Study

  • Art Study

  • The use of “living books” in History, Geography,

    Art, Composer, and Language Arts

  • Scripture and Poetry Memorization

  • Narration
